Montreal will host the world civil society from August 28th to 31st, 2009, and for the following three years. Institut du Nouveau Monde has been selected by the CIVICUS movement leaders to organize this World Alliance for Citizen Participation’s 9th, 10th and 11th world assemblies in Montreal. This event will be held at the Palais des congrès de Montréal.

CIVICUS is an international alliance of members and partners which constitute an influential network of organizations at the local, national, regional and international levels, and span the spectrum of civil society including: civil society networks and organizations; trade unions; faith-based networks; professional associations; NGO capacity development organizations; philanthropic foundations and other funding bodies; businesses; and social responsibility programs. CIVICUS has worked for over a decade to strengthen citizen action and civil society throughout the world, especially in areas where participatory democracy and citizens' freedom of association are threatened.
